Aufzug Café
About This Spot
Stepping into Aufzug Café feels like discovering a quietly enchanting secret tucked just a short stroll from the bustle of Vienna’s main train station. The pace here slows noticeably, inviting visitors to pause and savor a moment of calm amid a setting that feels intimately vintage yet warmly lived-in. There’s a gentle hum of conversation, soft footsteps, and the subtle clink of cups that forms a comforting backdrop, making it a haven for anyone seeking to unwind or settle into thoughtful company.
What truly sets this café apart is its distinctive atmosphere—where history meets imaginative design. Seating nestled inside restored elevator cabins creates private little alcoves, fostering a unique blend of privacy and whimsy. Alongside these, old telephone booths reimagined as tables whisper stories of another era, inviting small groups or solo visitors alike to sink into a slower rhythm. It’s a place that encourages lingering, whether you’re lost in a book, sharing quiet conversation, or simply watching the world outside.
The beverage menu reflects this thoughtful, carefully crafted approach to hospitality. Every drink feels made with intention—from the richly smooth coffees to the fragrant, richly steeped teas that reward those who savor them attentively. The café’s touches, like a perfectly baked chocolate croissant or a slice of carrot cake, fit effortlessly into the scene, offering comfort without pretense. Whether you’re craving a familiar cappuccino or curious about an iced matcha latte, these flavors unfold gently, complementing the café’s quietly inviting mood.
Aufzug Café is less about rushing through a visit and more about finding joy in the small moments: the warmth of friendly service, the play of light on vintage wood, the unexpected pleasure of a well-made Kurkuma latte or the smooth bitterness of an Americano. It’s a neighborhood spot that doesn’t shout for attention but wins you over with its thoughtful details and serene atmosphere—an ideal pause on the way to exploring Vienna’s nearby treasures or simply a cherished discovery in its own right.

A unique place with a lovely interior, cozy and friendly atmosphere, and the unexpectedly best Sachertorte we have tried in Vienna! It's really worth the visit if you are on your way to Belvedere – definitely a gem.

A small café close to the main train station, with a very inviting and calm atmosphere, clean and well-kept. At the time of my visit, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I had a Matcha Latte, which was made with care and tasted authentic. It was a pleasant experience, I can't recommend it enough, especially if you have some time to spend between trains.

Café Aufzug in Vienna is a charming, elevator-themed hideaway with a cozy, vintage atmosphere. Seating is tucked into restored lift cabins, creating a whimsical and intimate vibe. Their tea selection is superb—fragrant, thoughtfully prepared, and served with care. A perfect spot for tea lovers and anyone seeking a unique café experience.

Best coffee in Vienna (in the opinion of a Melbourne coffee enthusiast)! Delicious Linz torte as well. Service was warm and friendly and the environment was unique, with old telephone booths serving as tables for small groups.

We absolutely love this café. The elevator seating inside is incredibly cool and unique, making the experience even more special. The coffee is excellent—rich, smooth, and truly enjoyable. The chocolate croissant is also delicious, perfectly flaky with a wonderful chocolate flavor. We’ve visited two days in a row and still can’t get enough of their coffee drinks. This is definitely a place we would happily return to again and again.

5/5 Beautiful cafe close to Schloss Belvedere. Came here to pass some time before visiting the museum and was blown away by the excellent coffee and the BEST Sachertorte in Vienna or Austria? (even better than the original). The Sachertorte is wonderfully moist and fresh. The coffee is expertly brewed, lovely full bodied with a hint of sweetness. And, did I mention the decor? Think Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel with two beautifully restored early 19th century lift cars you can sip coffee in. And topped off with a beautiful uniform. Yes, when you come here you have definitely taken the elevator to the top floor. Melange + Sachertorte = TOTAL BLISS

Beautiful small cafe with amazing drinks and lovely decor! Fabulous vintage vibe. Saher torte was really good, matcha latte was also really good, iced white chocolate was also fantastic. Cheesecake was not the texture I'm used to (a bit grainy), but lovely nonetheless.

Small and very cool place with a retru feeling to it. We just had coffee and tea (which was served with a time of sand watch), and I like places that take tea seriously. It was a very good place to stop to warm up from the cold. I liked the guest book on the way to the toilet.
